Godfrey Wines is a new wine company based in Springton, South Australia. This small outlying town of the Barossa Valley is only minutes from the Eden Valley and some of the most wonderful vineyards in Australia.
In June 2008, Lisa and Sandy Godfrey decided to create an outlet for their favourite wine styles from South Australia. They do not have a winery, nor do they own vineyards, but they search the countryside looking for parcels of extraordinary fruit that can be used to make the styles of wine they love to drink.
Following the great tradition of Australian wine, Lisa and Sandy decided to start their portfolio with a Shiraz Cabernet from the Barossa and Eden Valleys. After training as a winemaker with David Lowe, Stephen Henschke and Tim Adams, Sandy sought to harness the rich fruit flavours from the Barossa and the elegant and smooth tannins of the Eden Valley in the first release for Godfrey Wines, aptly named POLISHED.
Sandy has an honours degree in winemaking from Adelaide University. Sandy shifted his focus to wine after completing a degree in History from Sydney University and learning the many great attributes of fine Australian wine while working in some of Sydney’s great restaurants. For the past three years Sandy has been working as Winemaker at Tim Adams Wines in the Clare Valley, South Australia. Lisa is a lawyer, with a double degree in Law and Politics from Adelaide University.
Lisa and Sandy believe that the landscape of Australian wine is changing. Consumers in Australia are becoming more and more educated about the virtues of great Australian wine and the value that is presented to them in every bottle. With this in mind they set out to create a range of wines that over delivers in every way. Lisa and Sandy promise never to release a wine that is not good enough for their table.
Wine should be drunk, so drink it.
